The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at The Shoals, located between the Wheeler and Wilson dams on the Tennessee River in Florence/Muscle Shoals, Alabama, offers two distinct 18-hole championship courses.
The Fighting Joe course, which opened in 2004 and was recognized by Travel + Leisure Golf as one of the top new courses that year, stretches over 8,000 yards from the black tees. This course features wide fairways and large bent grass greens, creating a straightforward yet challenging experience suitable for long hitters and golfers of all skill levels when playing from the appropriate tee box.
The Schoolmaster course, named after President Woodrow Wilson, who was instrumental in constructing Wilson Dam, debuted in 2005. This course tests players with narrower fairways and well-protected bent grass greens, demanding strategic shots across its nearly 8,000-yard layout. Its scenic landscape includes notable features such as a waterfall guarding the second green and stunning views from the elevated bluffs on the 18th hole.
Additionally, The Shoals hosts an annual Couples Championship every September.
