River Oaks Golf Club, located in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, spans 800 acres along the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. This 18-hole course, designed by Gene Hamm and Tom Jackson, is tailored to challenge golfers of varying skill levels. The two nines are named Fox and Otter after local wildlife present when the course was developed. Initially opened in 1987 as the 27th course built in the Myrtle Beach area, River Oaks underwent extensive renovations between 2007 and 2010. These improvements included better airflow and sunlight conditions resulting from the removal of over 4,000 trees, upgraded cart paths on the Fox and Otter courses, improved storm drainage, and the introduction of Ultra Dwarf Champions Bermuda greens.
Known for its consistent conditions and affordability, River Oaks is also recognized within the local community for its engaging environment. It supports youth golf through initiatives like "juniors play free" and hosts around 25 notable events annually. Golfers can take a virtual tour led by Head Professional Scott Taylor to get a hole-by-hole breakdown before playing. The club’s relaxing back patio offers an ideal spot to unwind before or after a round.
