River Oaks Golf Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, spans 800 acres along the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. The 18-hole design, split into two distinct nines named Fox and Otter, caters to golfers of varying abilities. Conceived by designers Gene Hamm and Tom Jackson, the course challenges players while enhancing the natural habitats of its wildlife namesakes.
Opened in 1987 as Myrtle Beach's 27th golf course, River Oaks underwent significant renovations between 2007 and 2010. Improvements included tree removal for better airflow and sunlight, upgraded cart paths for Fox and Otter courses, enhanced storm drainage systems, and installation of Ultra Dwarf Champions Bermuda greens. These upgrades have bolstered the course's reputation for consistent playing conditions and value.
River Oaks is recognized as a fun course with strong local support and holds over 25 events annually. It’s also home to the Myrtle Beach Junior Golf Foundation, offering initiatives like “juniors play free.” Visitors can further enjoy a virtual tour guided by Head Professional Scott Taylor or relax on the scenic back patio after their round.
