Pinehurst No. 4 is a golf course embedded in the tradition of the North Carolina Sandhills, redesigned by renowned architect Gil Hanse. Known for its visually stunning layout, this course integrates expansive sandy areas and native wiregrass seamlessly with the natural rolling topography, offering dramatic vistas throughout. The original 18 holes were designed by Donald Ross in 1919, with subsequent redesigns and restorations by prominent architects including Robert Trent Jones (1973), Rees Jones (1982), Tom Fazio (1999), and most recently Gil Hanse in 2018.

The course has hosted significant tournaments such as the U.S. Amateur in 2008 and 2019. Pinehurst No. 4 features a diverse range of par-3, par-4, and par-5 holes, each presenting unique challenges and enhancing the playing experience with strategic bunkers and undulating greens. Hole Nos. 1 through 18 offer varied Handicap indices to test golfers' skills at different levels. Currently, Hole No. 1 is shortened due to ongoing U.S. Open construction until June 30, 2024.
